Dear 4K Families,
As the autumn gets colder and the weather changes, please know that we will be going outside each day unless the temperature is below zero with or without the wind chill. Please make sure your child has mittens or gloves, a warm coat, hat or hood, and any other warm clothes that you think they would need. To practice self-help and make things run more smoothly at school please have your child practice at home getting dressed for the weather independently. (Things like zipping and unzipping, taking their coats on and off without the sleeves going inside out, and putting fingers in and out of mittens or gloves without trouble.) Practice makes perfect. They love to be independent, and some competitive children might even like if you play a game to see if they can "beat their time" getting dressed faster and faster. I have seen many proud faces already when they realize they can zip their own coat and turn the sleeves right-side-out without help. It seems like a little thing, but we definitely get more playtime if lots of kids can mostly do it without help.
This week we are finishing literacy testing and I will be able to share with you at conferences. Please make sure you are signed up for a conference. We are also doing letters Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, and Gg this week. I told the kids that when everyone knows all the letters, we can have an alphabet party! So exciting!
In math, we are continuing our shapes unit. We are talking about sides and corners and the different shapes. Today we changed shapes into different objects. It was fun.
The PTO Trunk or Treat is this coming Friday, October 21 from 6:00-7:30. There will be trick or treating, music, games, and lots of fun. Hope to see you there! Actually, I will be on the radio at the radio station 89.1 FM playing the music for the event. It should be so much fun.
Miss Gilding
