4K Newsletter for the Week of November 13-17

 4K Families,

Last week was very busy. We accomplished so much. We had great story time, had some special kindness lessons, did lots of math, practiced the alphabet.  I started the monthly alphabet checks this month, and everyone is doing a great job progressing through the alphabet and many have moved up and are practicing some sight words.

During the AM class, we practiced a lockdown drill on Friday morning. The scenario was told over the intercom and then teachers decide what makes more sense, to run or to lock the doors and stay. This time, the scenario called for locking in the room because the practice "threat" was outside. The kids did a great job and the focus in 4K is to stay safe by listening to the teachers and following directions. The kids did an amazing job, they weren't scared, and after, we had a few special rewards for doing so well. They got to buy two items from the school store, and we got some special toys out of the closet that they were interested in playing with.

The PM class will be going to the school store this week. Probably Monday. I don't want them to miss out!

In alphabet news, this week, we are doing letters Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, and Xx. We will finish up Yy and Zz the week of Thanksgiving, and then when we get back, we will begin the third time through the alphabet which is the Animal Alphabet and we learn about one new animal per day.  It is a lot of fun and we learn a lot of animal facts while practicing letters, sounds, and writing.

The kids are getting really good at spelling the word November. The other day, I pretended that I couldn't remember how to spell it when I was typing it into the search bar, and a bunch of kids spelled it for me. We learned it through the Jack Hartmann November song. He has a song for each month and they teach a lot in about 2 1/2 minutes.

As the weather gets colder, please have your child practice getting dressed in their winter clothes independently. This helps so much when they are at school. With such big classes, if most kids can dress independently, we have more time to play outside. I will send a larger note about snow clothes soon.  It sounds silly, but it makes sense when you read it.

Thanks for reading, and as always, don't hesitate to ask me questions if you are wondering about something.

Miss Gilding
